Hadith: Etiquettes and Virtue of Visiting the Sick - Abu Huraira Center

“When the Muslim visits his (sick) Muslim brother, he is harvesting the fruits of Paradise until he returns.” Narrated by Muslim, 2568

Etiquettes of Visiting the Sick

Visiting the sick is called ‘Iyaadah in Arabic (from a root word meaning return) because people come back time after time.

Ruling

Some of the scholars are of the view that it is a confirmed Sunnah (Sunnah mu’akkadah). Shaykh al-Islam (Ibn Taymiyah) favoured the view that it is a communal obligation (fard kifaayah), as stated in al-Ikhtiyaaraat (p. 85) and this is the correct view. It is proven in al-Saheehaayn that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There are five duties that the Muslim owes to his brother Muslim,” one of which is visiting the sick. According to another version: “The rights of one Muslim over another are…” Al-Bukhaari said: Chapter on the obligation of visiting the sick, and he narrated the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): “Feed the hungry, visit the sick and free the captives.” End quote.

Virtue

There are many ahadith which speak of its virtue, such as the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): “When the Muslim visits his (sick) Muslim brother, he is harvesting the fruits of Paradise until he returns.” Narrated by Muslim, 2568

Imam Ahmad narrated that Jaabir (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever visits a sick person is plunging into mercy until he sits down, and when he sits down he is submerged in it.” Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in al-Silsilah al-Saheehah, 2504.

Al-Tirmidhi (969) narrated that ‘Ali (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say: “There is no Muslim who visits a (sick) Muslim early in the morning but seventy thousand angels send blessings upon him until evening comes, and if he visits him in the evening, seventy thousand angels send blessings upon him until morning comes, and he will have a garden in Paradise.” Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi.

Visiting the sick does not involve only those whom you know, rather it is prescribed for those whom you know and those whom you do not know. al-Nawawi in Sharh Muslim.

IFT / IFS is asking parents and the community to be aware of the risks related to heart-health. Please watch the video by clicking the image below.

The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada recognizes that individual and social risk factors affect the life-long heart health of Canadians. Research has shown that people of South Asian descent are more likely to have high blood pressure and diabetes and are at greater risk of heart disease and stroke than the general population. This video tells the true story of Ashok, a South Asian family man as he prepares for, undergoes and recovers from, triple bypass surgery at only 39 years of age. It features actual footage from his cardiac surgery. The video includes an introduction by Shaykh Yusuf Badat and Shaikh Habeeb Alli. The Imams talk about the importance of maintaining a healthy heart for Muslim South Asians.

Masjid Al-Farooq, Mississauga - Lans Purchase required - additional parking required

LAND PURCHASE REQUIRED FOR PHASE 2

1.3 acre Toemar Firewood Property, inshaAllah

THE CHALLENGE – Additional Parking Required

Alhamduli Allah, Masjid al-Farooq submitted its Phase 2 plans in June 2009 for a 25,000 sq.ft expansion (full-time school, gymnasium, ghusl facility, etc). We had provided an EXCESS of 30 parking spots on the Plans (City required 77 and we provided 107). However, due to the congestion in the neighbourhood and parking infractions that some of our brothers and sisters have caused on the streets (e.g. blocking driveways and parking in people’s driveways, speeding, etc.), the City has upgraded our PHASE ONE parking requirements and the total parking required now is at least 153 making us short by 46 parking. The City would like us to solve this issue before proceeding. We have the following options (and the issues have been listed with each):

1. Underground Parking – very expensive at $25,000 per car

2. Aboveground Parking – expensive at $15,000 per car and will limit the future expansion of the building on the surface

3. Purchase more land – although costly, this is still the cheapest, quickest, easiest option. However, property in our area is going for $1.8 to 2 million per acre.

THE OPPORTUNITY – Toemar Firewood Property

Although Toemar Firewood (1.3 acre property next to us on the west side) has not been willing to sell in the past, we have been able to convince him to accept an offer of sale immediately, alhamduli Allah. This is a beautiful piece of property that would increase our total area to 3 acres, increase our frontage on Eglinton even further and give an additional 130 parking spots with room for the Phase 3 expansion, inshaAllah! This is an incredible opportunity from Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala! Please see the attached JPEG file for a Site Plan Sketch showing how the site would look if we get the property inshaAllah.

THE URGENCY – QARD HASANAH

Time is of the essence. The City will not continue our building permit approval until the Masjid purchases the property. Therefore, we need to raise $2 million very quickly (within a month or two). Although donations are welcome, we urgently need QARD HASANAH (loan without interest for a noble cause) with a term anywhere in the range of 9 months to 36 months. We will immediately provide an on-the-spot witnessed written contract with a repayable date. We have repaid everyone on-time in the past who gave us Qard Hasanah, alhamduli Allah.

Please encourage all your family and friends personally to cooperate, unite and participate in this noble opportunity to expand the Masjid sitting in full view on one of the busiest arteries in the City – a beacon of Da’wa! Masjid al-Farooq is always busy alhamduli Allah. In the summer, 600 people pray Jumu’ah OUTSIDE and some even pray Maghrib Salah outside!

Yes it is a big undertaking but we built Phase 1 costing $2million in 14 months, we bought the adjacent 0.75acre property in 2008 for $1.34million in a few months, so we can do this once again with the help of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala.

Please download the Qard Hasanah Form that you may fill and send to the Masjid. Or please feel free to contact me at the email above or call 905-858-7586 ext 21 to make arrangements for the Qard Hasanah.

"Once the Prophet was asked:'Tell us, which action is dearest to Allah?' He answered:'To say your prayer at its proper time.' " (Ibn Masad: Bukhari)

This Hadith inspired the creation of Salat for our fellow Muslim brothers and sisters.

Praying at the proper time

Salat computes prayer times based on your location in the world. If your BlackBerry® is equipped with a GPS, Salat will update prayer times automatically as you travel from one location to another. If your BlackBerry® is not equipped with a GPS, you can update your location using the embedded mapping function.

Salat will provide you with the following times:

» Fajr Dawn Prayer
» Shuruq Sunrise - end of Fajr Prayer
» Dhuhr (Noon Prayer)
» Asr Mid-afternoon Prayer
» Maghrib Sunset Prayer
» Isha Nightfall Prayer

Praying in the right direction
Salat also comes with a Qiblah feature that indicates the direction to the Kabba in Mecca from wherever you are in the world. Simply locate your position on the map, and the Qiblah direction will be indicated with an arrow.

Designed for BlackBerry®
Salat is designed to work with any BlackBerry® device with OS 4.5 or higher. Salat has been optimized for the following Blackberry® devices:
» Storm

» Curve
» Pearl

Very accurate, highly recommended
A very honest salaat companion.

If you have a Bold I recommend this product (or any other GPS BB) as it does just what is described. You can manually adjust the times if necessary however they are accurate for my location. And because I work, I like the fact any notification can be set to alert me for salaat. Although if one used the athaan, it shud be full. The qibla compass is working fine, has the arrow pointing in the direction it should be in. Masha'allah. I can't really ask for anything more. Worth its money.
